AMSOIL founder and industry pioneer Al Amatuzio built his company on the same principles that defined his career as a United States jet fighter squadron commander – excellence, integrity and strong leadership. In the 1960s while serving in the Minnesota Air National Guard, Amatuzio saw the benefits of synthetic lubricants in action. Synthetics were the only lubricants capable of withstanding the heat and stress of jet engines. Amatuzio wondered why we weren’t using synthetic oil in our motorbikes, trucks and other vehicles, too.
He went to work researching synthetic technology and lubricant chemistry. He developed several formulations, and by 1968 was commercially selling synthetic engine oil for automotive use. In 1972, a breakthrough came – AMSOIL Synthetic Motor Oil became the first synthetic engine oil in the world to meet American Petroleum Institute (API) service requirements. It outperformed conventional oils on all counts, signaling a new age in lubrication science.

Engineers at Ford, Chevrolet*, Dodge, Harley-Davidson and other American manufacturers are constantly introducing more powerful and demanding engines. Modern engines make more power, run hotter and produce lower emissions than their predecessors, but they place tougher demands on oil.
